Cause Description:
The St. Louis Lead Prevention Coalition works to reduce and eliminate lead poisoning in the St. Louis metro area, especially among children. Formed in the summer of 1999, and officially incorporated in April of 2000, the Coalition is a group of individuals, businesses, public and private organizations working in collaboration. Active, dedicated, and diverse, the Coalition’s members represent a broad range of constituents from St. Louis City and the counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson and Franklin in Missouri and St. Clair in Illinois. Agency Mission Statement With the goal of establishing healthy homes and community environments, the St. Louis Lead Prevention Coalition's mission is to eliminate the effects of lead on all children and other community residents in the St. Louis bi-state region. The Lead Prevention Coalition will emphasize strategies focused on primary prevention to achieve that goal. In pursuing its mission, the Lead Prevention Coalition will work in collaboration with other community organizations in performing the following functions: Advocacy Research Public education Facilitating development of a comprehensive community plan to address the lead problem in the St. Louis region Policy and program development Remediation and abatement activities Training and technical assistance
