Cause Description:
SmartGrrls is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to encourage and empower young women in math and science. We operate a ten-week, middle school education outreach program featuring hands-on math and science activities, field trips, guest speakers, and role models. Our programs are staffed by women volunteers from UT who are majoring in math, science, engineering and technology fields. They mentor middle school girls through a variety of activities, and are, in turn, mentored by professional women working in high tech fields. We operate locally at this time, but will offer program nation-wide by the fourth quarter of 1999.
