Cause Description:
Since its founding in 1989, the Maine Citizen Leadership Fund (MCLF) has earned a strong reputation as an organization that gets things done. Our organizing victories have consistently strengthened progressive allies in Maine, provided other states with model reforms and helped to energize grassroots movements across the country. A multi-issue, statewide 501(c)(3) organization, MCLF is dedicated to advancing Maine's progressive movement for social and economic justice by: documenting the root causes of injustice; educating the public, media and policy makers; developing the strategies and messages needed to bring about institutional change; and organizing and sustaining the grassroots leaders and coalitions needed to fight for, win and protect those changes. MCLF works closely with the Dirigo Alliance, a 501(c)(4) coalition dedicated to building progressive power in Maine and advocating for public policy reforms. The Dirigo Alliance is composed of 16 progressive organizations representing labor, environmentalists, low-income families, women, seniors, gays and lesbians, nurses, pro-choice groups and peace activists. MCLF has also developed strong working relationships with a broad range of progressive allies in Maine, regionally and at the national level. We have collaborated extensively with Public Campaign, Northeast Action, USAction, Good Jobs First and United for a Fair Economy for many aspects of our issue work. Most importantly, at the state level MCLF has forged enduring coalitions between diverse groups representing organized labor, environmentalists, the faith community, women, seniors, low-income families and other key constituencies. other websites include www.mainecleanelections.org and www.homesteadplus.org
