Casa Myrna Vazquez is a Boston-based non-profit dedicated to ending domestic violence in homes, families and communities through intervention, prevention and education. What began in 1977 as a single shelter staffed entirely by volunteers has grown into New England’s largest provider of shelter to women and children made homeless by domestic violence, and supportive services that provide the tools they need to achieve sustainable self-sufficiency. Casa Myrna operate SafeLink, the statewide 24/7 domestic violence hotline in Massachusetts (877-785-2020), an emergency shelter and two transitional living programs. Supportive services include legal advocacy, budgeting and financial literacy workshops, housing search assistance and advocacy, support groups, parenting groups, individual counseling, children's services, a food pantry and a modest donation center. The agency's prevention and education initiatives include dating violence prevention workshops, outreach to key stakeholders and community groups on the issue of domestic violence, and occasional campaigns on public transit systems statewide.
