Heart of Texas Greyhound Adoption, Inc. was formed in 2000 as a 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax exempt organization. H.O.T. was formed for the purpose of rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of Greyhounds. Our services, which also include pre and post-adoption counseling and assistance to families and their Greyhounds, are provided not only to H.O.T. families, but any family and their Greyhound(s) no matter from where they adopted. Although the majority of Greyhounds acquired by H.O.T. are retired racers, we are committed to helping any Greyhounds in need, and we welcome anyone with a similar "pro-Greyhound" attitude. The only factors which limit the amount of Greyhounds we are able to help is funds and space. The volunteers of H.O.T. pride themselves on matching up potential adopters with a Greyhound that is right for the individual or family. No Greyhound leaves our group before it has had its pre-adoption vetting, which includes: spay or neuter, full dental, update on all shots, fecal testing (and treatment if necessary), heartworm testing (and treatment if necessary). All Greyhounds are treated for external parasites and started on heartworm preventative prior to their adoption. H.O.T. also encourages cooperation between other Greyhound adoption groups to help as many Greyhounds as possible.
