Guide Dogs of America

Sylmar, California

Cause Description:
Guide Dogs of America (also known as International Guiding Eyes) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides guide dogs and instruction in their use free of charge to blind and visually impaired individuals from all over the United States and Canada so that they may continue to pursue their goals with increased mobility and independence. Our free of charge services provided to the guide dog recipents include transportation to the school for 28 days of instruction with a licensed trainer, room, board, a guide dog, a specially designed harness, and follow up care for the life of the team. The organization breeds their own dogs to ensure the success of the puppies. Volunteer Puppy Raisers help raise, socialize and give basic obedience training to all the puppies until it is time for them to come in for formal guide dog training. It costs about $25,000 to provide a guide dog to one blind recipient. Over 90% of all funds are put towards program service costs, with less than 10% making up Administrative and Fundraising costs, so you know your contribution is well spent. Make the diference in the life of a blind individual who want to live more independently with the loving companionship of a guide dog. With your help we can continue to make a difference in the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals.
