Rebuilding Together's mission is to work in partnership with the community, to rehabilitate the houses of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly, the disabled and families with children, so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and independence. Rebuilding Together is committed to helping those members of our community who have worked hard to own their own homes but whose failing health and/or fixed income does not allow them to cover the extraordinary costs of home repair. Few of us consider how difficult life would be if the ceiling dripped every time it rained, if only one light worked in our home, or if we could not leave our house because we cannot walk down the steps to the outside world. Throughout Montgomery County there are many elderly and disabled individuals who each day face situations as difficult or more difficult than these. Since 1990, Rebuilding Together has rehabilitated over 800 homes like these, descending each April with some 2,600 volunteers to make repairs to help elderly and disabled homeowners remain safely in their homes. Our potential to successfully serve our community lies in forming partnerships with city, county, corporate and non-profit service providers. Together, we can ensure that low-income elderly and disabled homeowners will reside in safety and in the least restrictive environment possible, while remaining in the homes in which they have built a lifetime of memories. http://www.rebuildingtogethermc.org
