Cause Description:
A citizens' group founded in 1998 to fight landowners' intent to rezone a mountain historically zoned as a Conservation District to a Mining and Mineral Recovery in order to establish and operate potentially the largest sandstone aggregate mining operation on the east coast. Water, noise, dust, and light pollution are almost secondary to horrendous traffic problems to be caused on a winding, heavily travelled, two-land mountain road. The quarry is proposed to be at the top of the mountain and visible for miles and miles. This challenge to change the zoning of a pristine, forested mountain side in a beautiful, semi-rural and well-recognized valley in northeast PA has been consistently been denied by the township and so far once by the state Court. But the landowner keeps coming up with new challenges that we must oppose in court.
