Diego's House
Pasadena, California
Cause Description:
Diego's House is a non profit organization
(which is obtaining 501(c)(3) status) that is
raising funds to open a short term respite care
facility for parents of disabled children. Respite
care is a service that provides care for the
disabled and elderly to give caregivers/parents
a break. Since the disabled and elderly often
have medications, or medical needs beyond the
ability of a mere babysitter, these caretakers
rarely get time off. A respite worker/facility
provides the caretaker with this much needed
break. Specifically, Diego's House will be an
actual house that will be medic-ally staffed and
will house up to 6 disabled children for up to
three weeks so that caretakers can do anything
from get one night sleep to a 3 week vacation.
In addition, it gives disabled children a chance
to get away in a home/camp like setting and to
be with other children. We hope to have Diego's
House up and running some time in 2005, and
until that time we are working hard to raise
money to create Diego's House.
