Cause Description:
Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center (CMDC)is a ballet-based dance training school that is the most diverse studio in Chicago and home to approximately 300 students from age 3 to 18 and another 100 adults in various classes. Founded by Homer Bryant a former principal dancer at Dance Theater of Harlem the school is dedicated to the best in ballet-based and contemporary dance training for all of chicago's children, regardless of racial and ethnic background. Programs range from pre-ballet training through pre-professional training in the School of Bryant Ballet and in Modern,Hip Hop,Jazz, Tap open classes. Classes for Adults include Yoga, Pilates Adult Ballet, Belly dancing. CMDC features a Dancing Off the Streets (DOTS) program that brings the same standard of training to over 150 low-income children in Chicago Public Schools and other community locations. These classes are free for these students and they may enter the broader CMDC program as they progress. Funding for these classes comes from foundations and volunter donations. Ages of the DOTS students range from 5 to 12. THe school performs twice yearly at the Christmas holidays and in June spring in a culminating show for the program year. Students from the school have gone on to careers in major ballet companies including Houston Ballet, Boston Ballet, Dance theater of Harlem,North Carolina Dance Theater, Joffrey Ballet Chicago and more. Many students have gone on to successful careers in law, medicine and business careers for which they credit Mr. Bryant's instilling the discipline of ballet. Support for scholarships and expansion of the DOTS program is needed along with help for the costly equipment (e.g. point shoes) thank you for considering CMDC for your giving.
