Shaken baby syndrome (SBS) is the leading cause of severe brain injury and death in children less than one year of age in the US. An estimated 1,500 children are injured or killed by shaking every year. The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) is dedicated solely to the prevention of this form of child abuse. Every year, the NCSBS's training efforts reach thousands of medical, legal, child protection and law enforcement professionals worldwide. The prevention and awareness programs also educate thousands of parents, students and caregivers throughout the world. The NCSBS is NOT a government agency, we are a non-profit organization, and these programs cannot continue to reach communities without the support of people who share our commitment to protect children.
