Funding from igive.com donations will help support the International Art Exchange Program sponsored by Village Tree Enterprises. Now in it's 8th year, The International Arts Exchange Project brings together the visual and written expressions created by students in grades 1-12 in urban schools in the United States and rural schools in the Caribbean and West Africa. This program also provides donations of school supplies and books for participating schools. It is the goal of the International Art Exchange Project to utilize artistic expression to offer insight into the personal experiences of children throughout the world. The project incorporates art, literacy, social studies, and current events and seeks to create a channel for commentary for participating students and adults. Artists and teachers coordinate and facilitate workshops on-site at all schools and engage student participants in visual art and creative writing projects. It is hoped that through the sharing of their life experiences the children will gain perspective on the impact of contemporary events on their lives, and come to a greater understanding that they are more alike than different. Participating schools include Davis Education Center in Tucson Arizona, Childrens Studio School in Washington, D.C., St. Andrews Lower Basic School and Berending Kombo Village School in The Gambia, West Africa, and Dangriga Public School in Belize, Central America. Village Tree Enterprises was founded in 1991 by an inspired group of educators, holistic practitioners, and storytellers as a means to connect to communities worldwide who are interested in building educational, holistic, and cultural awareness among people of the world.
