The Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, Inc. (GLAD) has been improving the lives of deaf and hard of hearing individuals since its establishment as a volunteer organization in 1969. Founded on the philosophy…”of, by and for the deaf and hard of hearing”, GLAD’s Deaf Community Center encompasses a wide array of specialized health and human service programs for the deaf and hard of hearing community. GLAD’s main mission is to ensure equal access of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community. Our general purposes and powers are directed around the promotion of the social, recreational, cultural, educational and vocational welfare of its deaf and hard of hearing constituents. GLAD’s specific and primary purpose is to act as a coordinating agency that addresses the broad social service needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing through direct service provision, advocacy, research and dissemination of information regarding deafness to parents, professionals and consumers. Today, GLAD directly serves clients annually through its main headquarters at the Deaf Community Center located in Eagle Rock and at outreach offices throughout its service area of Los Angeles, Kern, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
