Cause Description:
The Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) was founded in 1975, providing an academic community based tertiary care, research, and training center for Virginia's largest metropolitan area. The Endowed Professorship in Preventive Medicine (Fund 235) will spearhead efforts to diagnose and cure heretofore untreatable diseases such as sarcoidosis, uveitis, tumors, and neovascularization. Our country spends only 1% of all health care dollars on prevention, which must change if we are to maintain top quality care into the new Millennium. We are working tirelessly to bring hope to those so unfortunate to bear the diagnosis of an untreatable illness, and prevent so many unnecessary cases of premature death and blindness.
