SitStayRead brings dogs into Chicago's under-served, low-income neighborhoods to help children learn to read. Our mission is to improve literacy skills and foster a love of learning in at-risk children. Founded in 2003, our 501(c)(3) organization brings teams of trained volunteers and certified reading-assistance dogs to Chicago Public Schools and community agencies to help struggling young 1st through 4th grade readers develop critical early literacy skills. Children in our program make 47.8% greater fluency gains than their non-participating peers, according to a study by Loyola University.
