Cause Description:
GIVE Community Services provides one-on-one tutoring in basic reading, writing, math, and small group settings for adult learners to help them prepare for the General Education Development (GED) test at no cost to the adult learners. We also teach life skills and provide counseling to encourage positive social interactions at work and in the family for individuals. We strive to teach self-sufficiency through developing the entrepreneurial spirit in adult learners, also job preparedness. Family literacy is another service which includes adults and children at-risk in a family whose economic and educational well-being will be improved through GIVE. We use volunteers who are trained to tutor at a cost to the organization and volunteers who are educators who teach GED courses. Many of the students struggle to get to GIVE because they do not have bus fare and many do not have the fee for the GED test. Most are unemployed and cannot progress because of their limited education.
