Cause Description:
Founded in 1902, "Lutheran Settlement House exists to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through an integrated program of social, educational and advocacy services." Lutheran Settlement House's current programming integrates social, educational and advocacy services through the provision of after-school care for children, a Family Literacy Program, adult education classes including English as a Second Language, literacy, Adult Basic Education, and GED studies, LSH’s Bilingual Domestic Violence Project, employment counseling and training, Senior Services including a Senior Center and meal delivery to homebound seniors, and Luther House Family Shelter, an emergency shelter for homeless families. Services offered by Lutheran Settlement House continue to be free of charge and are open to all individuals regardless of income, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and religious or political affiliations. In 2000-01, over 10,000 individuals in the Philadelphia region were assisted through our programs.
