Cause Description:
The need for the medical center is well documented. The citizens of this region deserve better health care than we currently have available to us. We deserve 24 hour emergency care, comprehensive primary health care and access to necessary services without having the inconvenience and expense of trips to distant locales. The medical center will also allow for effective recruiting of more physicians, more specialties and more health care professionals. The 20-acre site for the medical center lies one mile west of Woodland Park on the south side of U.S. Highway 24. The hilltop site offers superior views to Pikes Peak, excellent accessibility to the highway and a location to best serve the citizens of the entire region. In addition to the medical center, the site will also be home to a medical office building and a facility serving the Prospect Home Care-Hospice programs. There will be 18 medical/surgical beds, three special (intensive) care beds, three birthing suites with one postpartum room for a total bed complement of 25 beds. The medical/surgical beds will be in private rooms with five of the rooms sized for expansion to semi-private rooms if required. The surgery sections will provide two operating rooms, one procedure room and seven pre/post-operative recovery beds. The emergency department will have separate entrances for ambulatory and ambulance patients and includes five treatment spaces. The ambulance entrance will be an enclosed garage type space protected from the weather. A helipad will be adjacent to the hospital. The radiology department will include two radiographic/fluoroscopic rooms, mammography, ultrasound, echocardiography, helical CT scanning and nuclear medicine. An outside space for Mobile MRI will be provided. The laboratory will provide full clinical laboratory services appropriate to a primary care setting. The cardio/pulmonary department will include Electrocardiography (ECG), Holter monitoring, pulmonary function, blood gas analysis, cardiac rehab conditioning, treadmill and sleep studies. Other departments include infusion center, pharmacy and dietary. Physical and occupational therapy services will be tied into a wellness fitness center available to the public stressing preventative medicine, exercise, healthy lifestyles and health education. Support services include space for administration, medical records, admitting, chapel, gift shop, central supply, maintenance, housekeeping and volunteer programs.
