Blood, it is the life-giving resource. When a person loses blood from an injury or suffers from a disease that requires frequent blood transfusions, there is no substitute, no waiting and no going without. Residents of Western Washington, who need blood transfusions or tissue transplantation, have come to rely on the Puget Sound Blood Center and its hundreds of thousands of volunteer donors. But the Blood Center is much more than a community blood “bank.” The medical research underway at the Puget Sound Blood Center offers new hope for people with leukemia and other cancers, rare blood and autoimmune diseases, recipients of organ transplants and burn victims and thousands of surgery patients throughout the Pacific Northwest.
