The Pan American Symphony Orchestra (PASO) is a community-based organization dedicated to promoting a better understanding of Latin American and Spanish culture through music. A community orchestra founded in 1991, PASO promotes the performance of orchestral compositions by Latin American composers and makes these works accessible in the Washington, DC area at minimal ticket prices. ($10 - $20 per ticket) PASO highlights Latin American music that is rarely performed in the U.S., as well as abroad. Committed to providing quality performances of a symphonic and ensemble repertoire, the orchestra emphasizes original compositions by Latin American composers combined with standard orchestral literature. The group brings qualified musicians in the area together for the opportunity to perform Latin American works, in addition to standard orchestral repertoire. The orchestra provides a yearly concert series and showcases performing artists of American and Latin American origin. In addition to the regular concert series, the orchestra sponsors a free recital series at Trinity College in Washington, D.C., offering young Latin American and Spanish soloists an opportunity to showcase their talent.
