Cause Description:
The Hard Times Cafe is a grassroots group of people experiencing "hard times" who want to empower themselves. With help from many supporters, we serve a weekly dinner, meet together to advance ourselves individually and as a community, and operate an "alternative economy". Hard Times Cafe members may earn "points" by volunteering at the Cafe or various agencies in the Heartside Area. Points may be used to purchase small things such as grooming items and soap at the Cafe "store", which is open for about a half hour before the Wednesday meeting and meal. In the past points have been used for vouchers toward food, rent, or utilities. This enables one to cut expenses by doing work that we all agree is worthwhile to the community. If you are facing hard time, lack of resources, or injustice, and you want to be with others in similar positions who want to make changes, come share a meal and participate in the alternative economy or the meetings. All are welcome!
