The National Jazz Museum in Harlem is a new museum to be built in Harlem (NYC). It is a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate). Our mission is to reach and inspire the public about jazz and the role it plays as both an artistic as well as a social force in American society. We will focus on the overall influence jazz has upon other forms of music and art, its impact on the social mores, customs and languages of the United States and how it has produced a body of criticism and archival material of unsurpassed intellectual and cultural importance. The National Jazz Museum is dedicated to the historical and cultural preservation of jazz in all its various forms and styles, from its beginnings to its present and to its future.
