The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial is dedicated to advancing human rights in the United States and around the world by providing direct support to grass-roots, non-violent, human rights defenders around the globe. These 37 courageous individuals in 22 countries risk their lives daily in their struggle for the basic human rights and freedoms. The Memorial also presents annual Book and Journalism Awards to journalists and authors who highlight problems of society frequently overlooked by the mainstream press. Speak Truth to Power (STTP) program promotes awareness of human rights, through the combined power of arts and education. Based on the book by Kerry Kennedy, STTP features a website, educational packets, a photo exhibit, and a play.
