Cause Description:
First Step is a non-profit organization serving one thousand infants, children, and adults with developmental disabilities or delays. Established in 1958, First Step helps those who have experienced disruption in their development. This is a place where individuals with developmental disabilities receive education and therapeutic services in a community setting. This is a place where our children are like all other people -- they're loveable, energetic, bright-eyed and eager for life's experiences. This is a place where adults who, like other adults, are learning life skills necessary for productive and independent living. Our services include early intervention (0-3yrs.), Pre-school (18mos.-5yrs.), school age (5 to 20yrs. whose disabilities are such that they cannot be integrated into public schools), adult services (day programs, supported employment, group homes, and independent living units), in-home personal care, and case management.
