Cause Description:
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is the nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 1980 to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Today, the Memorial Fund is dedicated to preserving the legacy of The Wall, to educating and to promoting healing from the effects of the Vietnam War. VVMF holds ceremonies at The Wall each year to honor those who served with the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War and their families. It also has a traveling exhbition, The Wall That Heals, which brings a half-scale replica of The Wall and a museum to communities nationwide. In 1998, the Memorial Fund launched The Virtual Wall Web site (www.thevirtualwall.org), an online twin of the Memorial in D.C. VVMF has worked to provide future generation with comprehensive, balanced materials about the Vietnam War era and its lasting influence on society. It distributed educational resources free of charge to all public and private high schools and middle schools across the country and is presently working to have an Education Center built near the Memorial.
