Cause Description:
The purpose of the Park Place Prevention Playground is to provide a disadvantaged community with an attractive wood and metal, resident designed and built, interactive playground. This playground, which is the first of it's kind to be constructed in an urban area in Nashville, will provide 2,077 children with a safe and creative place to play in a community that is fighting hard to make a difference in it's future. The project, which is sponsored by Trevecca Nazarene University and the Alcohol and Drug Council of Middle Tennessee brings together a wealth of volunteers and resources designed to impact the lives of youth on the edge. To date we have raised $ 35,000.00 towards our $ 80,000.00 goal plus the land towards this play area. Some of our fine sponsors include the Frist Foundation, Bellsouth Community Cares, Amsouth Bank, Southtrust Bank, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Authority, First Tennessee Bank and many others. Indicative of our cross-system approach, neighborhood children (and adults!) are engaged in making clay tiles that will be represented in a wall that will divide the toddler section from the big kids area. Tile making sessions provide big fun, and an opportunity for our volunteers to connect closely with the children and adult residents.
