Lonesome Hurst - A Living Museum Farm

Livingston, Louisiana

Cause Description:
Can you image........ awaking to the sounds of a rooster calling........ the smells of homemade baking bread, as you snuggle deeper into a warm feather bed. As your feet hit the cold crisp floor and you make it to the kitchen, a warm wood burning stove covered with homemade country style biscuits filled with pure creamy butter and topped in fresh golden honey, smoked ham, and a bowl of sweet red Louisiana strawberries are awaiting you for a morning breakfast. The smell of chicory coffee lingers in the air as you wander out on the porch to see the beaming light as it glimmers across the tops of bright yellow sunflowers, their heads drooped, misty dew sparkling in the bright morning sun. All at once, the old bent willow rocker moves in the rose scented breeze, and the green pines appear to be waving good morning as they invite you out to the fields. The rocker continues to dance across the porch as the newly arrived kittens play underneath it, and the ole' orange mama cat licks up the last of her morning meal. This is LONESOME HURST - A Living Educational Museum Farm to be located in the heart of the piney woods of the Florida Parishes. Some call it Livingston - "The Free State," but most call it purely a Simple Life. A one of a kind historic log house, the home site of John and Clara Smart Perrin's family for more than 80 years where traditional family values, education, and Louisiana politics were the topic of many family gathering will be the major focus of this museum. Constructed by William Smart and his children, father of Clara and one of Livingston Parishes first sheriff, while Clara and John were stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. Soon it will once again delight visitors from around the world as it has so many times in the past by becoming an unique educational facility relocating to Old McDonald's Farm Road in the Old Town of Doyle, where all ages can experience and rejoice in Celebrating the Simply Life. This outdoor classroom will be conveniently relocated to the east side of present day Town of Livingston in Livingston Parish just off Interstate 12, between Baton Rouge and Hammond. We invite you to step back in time to this turn of the century rural Louisiana homestead. Come pick and eat a few fresh strawberries, help milk the family cow, our chickens are always in need of a little more corn, or just relax in an old country rocker with a cool glass of lemon aide and take in the Simple Life of country living as the crickets sound their charge for another night in the still darkness of the piney woods. Be apart of History. Save a Treasure. Give to the Livingston Parish Cultural Association and contribute generously to the endowment of this one of a kind educational facility and program for the Florida Parishes. You too,can Celebrate the Simple Life.
