Cause Description:
The Breitenbush Foundation has accuired 67 acres of forest land adjacent to Breitenbush Hot Springs and Willamette National Forest. Recently slated for major development, this once-pristine wildlife habitat has been clear-cut, bulldozed and dynamited, reducing much of it to a wasteland. The Foundation will use the land as a living laboratory of wildlife restoration and appropriate technology. The land contains all the resources necessary for using solar, wind, geothermal and low-impact hydro-energy, and is still visited by elk, deer, cougar, bear, heron, ducks and many other forms of wildlife. The Foundation will develop a model for the next step in the evolution of our society: an earth-friendly infrastructure allowing humans to live in harmony with each other, the earth, and its creatures. Our hope is that this interdependent, sustainable community will serve a a model for the coming millennium.
