Parrots can be found the world over, but despite their great diversity, many of them face similar human- generated dangers. Nearly one in three parrot species are considered by IUCN to be at risk of global extinction due to capture for the live-bird trade, habitat loss and other factors. Because of these threats, since 1989, the World Parrot Trust (WPT) has brought together global wildlife conservation and welfare experts, in-country organizations, local communities, and governments to implement effective programs to protect wild and companion parrots.
