Our Vision The Atheist Community of Polk County envisions a world in which evidence, reason, and critical thinking – rather than religious dogma – are the foundations of public policy and education; where religious beliefs are no longer an excuse for bigotry and discrimination or given special treatment from the government. Our Mission To increase the visibility of and respect for nontheistic viewpoints in Polk County through socializing, educational opportunities, and community service; To oppose discrimination and promote equality in all its forms; To defend religious equality by protecting what Thomas Jefferson called the “wall of separation” between state and church created by the First Amendment; and To work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
