Since 1988, The Irish Repertory Theatre has achieved an international reputation for excellence as the only full-time theatre company outside of Ireland devoted to presenting classic and contemporary Irish and Irish American theatre. In two decades, The Irish Rep has grown from a traveling theatre company serving a few thousand patrons annually to an arts institution with two performance spaces, an annual attendance of 43,000, at capacity, and an annual operating budget exceeding $2.4 million. With the mission to entertain and educate audiences, nurture artists, and build cultural bridges, The Irish Rep was established on three core values, as expressed in its mission statement: • to bring works by Irish and Irish American masters and contemporary playwrights to a broad American audience; • to provide a context for understanding the contemporary Irish American experience; and, • to encourage the development of new works focusing on the Irish and Irish American experience, as well as how it relates to other cultures. In supporting this mission, The Irish Rep offers a balanced fare of programs through its three principle activities – Theatrical Productions, a New Works Reading Series, and various Arts Engagement endeavors.
