Cause Description:
The Philadelphia Regional Alliance of HUD Tenants is a tenant-run non-profit organization that organizes tenants in multi-family subsidized housing to support each other and fight for the preservation of decent and affordable housing. PRAHT operated for six years entirely through the volunteer efforts of tenants devoted to making sure their rights were respected and their voices heard. Recently, they received an Outreach and Technical Assistance Grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide education and advocacy for tenants in properties undergoing financial restructuring. PRAHT's constituency comprises 2000 tenants in the Philadelphia area, many of whom are elderly and disabled, who live in HUD-subsidized developments.
