The Virginia Save Our Streams Program has been the priority project of the Virginia Division of the Izaak Walton League of America since 1996. The Virginia Save Our Streams Program provides citizens with a way to become intimately involved in protecting our water resource in Virginia. We help to create active stewards of waterways and watersheds in Virginia. The central mission of VA SOS is to develop and maintain a citizen monitoring program in Virginia. We accomplish our mission by 1) educating interested citizens about water quality, stream biology and benthic ecology and 2) developing a corps of volunteer monitors to make useful observations of stream sections not currently assessed by state agencies.
